Management and aftercare

Both during the operation of the site and after its closing, it is important that the spreading of any contamination beyond the boundaries of the landfill site be closely monitored. Even for former landfill sites it is good practice to identify and record the risks involved. There are several ways to do that.

In the Netherlands we have carried out investigations on 130 former landfill sites. A substantial number of problematic sites are still under our management. We can advise on the best approach for remediation, including setting up monitoring and aftercare plans. We collaborated on creating a model strategy for investigating former landfill sites under the framework of the European SufalNet project.
